Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

Q: What is Medicare?
A: Medicare is a health insurance program for people 65 and older or for individuals under 65 with certain conditions, disabilities or end-stage renal disease. Medicare does not cover all expenses and is not designed to pay for long-term custodial care. For individuals meeting the requirements, Medicare helps cover the costs for hospital stays, skilled nursing facility stays up to 100 days and hospice care. Our admission team will assist you in getting the Medicare benefits available to you.

Q: How many days does Medicare cover at a Oakridge Nursing & Rehab location?
A: Medicare Part A coverage requires a three-day hospital stay and a doctors order. Days are based on an individual basis. Diagnosis, prior level of function, therapies ordered, medical acuity and the ability to make gains are just a few things that are necessary in order to meet Medicare criteria. The maximum benefit period is 100 days if the qualifying conditions are met. On day 1 through 20, Medicare pays 100% of covered charges. A daily co-insurance payment will apply on days 21-100.

Q: How is the co-insurance amount covered?
A: Supplemental insurance, private payment or financial assistance from the State of Missouri under the Medicaid program.

Q: What is Medicaid?
A: The Medicaid program provides medical benefits to low-income people who have no medical insurance or inadequate medical insurance. The federal government establishes general guidelines for the program, but each state establishes the program’s requirements including eligibility. The Department of Health Care and Family Services (HFS) requires Missouri residency, U.S. citizenship, a need for medical care and the completion of an application.   There are certain income and asset requirements that must be met, as set by the State of Missouri. You can find out more about the Medicaid program through cms.gov or by talking to our admissions team.
